Who do you spend the most time with?

Who are you spending time with

There’s a quote by Jim Rohn, “You are the average of the 5 people you spend most of your time with”.  This is something successful people know and they are very particular about who they spend their time with.

I thought a lot about that quote recently with all aspects of life…
People want success and happiness relationally, financially, physically, mentally, and spiritually.

With that in mind, I’d like to throw some questions out for you to think about.

Are you frustrated with your health, fitness, the way you look and feel? Are the 5 people you spend the most time with helping you to be a fit, healthy person?

What about how you view the world? Do you find yourself irritated with people, life and the world in general? Do you find yourself complaining about anything and everything? What about the 5 people you spend the most time with?

Are you living your life with passion and purpose or just sleep walking your way through the daily grind day in and day out? What about the 5 people you spend the most time with?

I want you to take a moment, quiet your mind from all the noise, dig deep inside yourself and ask yourself, what do I want from my life and are the 5 people I spend the most time with a reflection of the person I want to BE.

If the answer to that question is NO, start looking for people who reflect each aspect of the person you want to BE.

Another question you may want to ask yourself is, do you like your own company? Some people can’t stand to be alone and would rather engage with people who aren’t a true reflection of who they want to be, just to feel like they “belong”, rather than be alone.

When it comes to relationships, we are greatly influenced — whether we like it or not — by those closest to us. It affects our way of thinking, our self-esteem, and our decisions.

I want to be a highly successful entrepreneur. Therefore I follow and allow myself to be influenced by those who have achieved the level of success I aspire to.

I choose to live life with passion and purpose in a way where I don’t live the daily grind. I choose to follow those who have the same mindset.

I want you to think about your health, fitness and weight loss goals.  Do you find yourself constantly struggling with your fitness and being consistent with your workout?

In my book, Transformation Over 40, there is a chapter called Friendly Fire” and it has a lot to do with how those closest to you can sabotage your efforts to become more fit and healthy.

That’s something you need to get in tune with.  So whether you think your friends and family may not affect and influence your desire to look better and feel better, and are supportive of your efforts, think again.  They also affect your behavior, the choices you make and the action you take.

Subconsciously they don’t want you to change.  They’re used to you being a certain way.  And so, every time you go out with them and you try to make better, more nutritious food choices, they’ll talk you into having the greasy burger and fries with them.

You’ll hear them say things like “C’mon.  You can start your diet another day.  Enjoy yourself.  It’s not like you’re going to wake up 100 pounds heavier tomorrow”.

I dive deep into this stuff in Transformation Over 40 and teach you how to overcome this without alienating your friends and family.  You’ll also learn how to master The Success Mindset which applies to just about any aspect of your life.

I’ve been through this myself and have coached my clients about this over the years.  I promise you… it’s quite an eye opener and this is stuff no one talks about.

Again… ask yourself this question.

Who is the person I want to BE?

And more importantly, are the people you spend the most time with a reflection of the person you truly are and who you want to BE.

My best weight loss advice

You’re looking at your body naked in the mirror.

And while you are looking at yourself, you’re focusing on all your imperfections wishing you had better looking abs, legs and a firmer butt.

And then you say to yourself, I need to lose weight.  I need to go on a diet.

WRONG

Forget about weight loss.  Weight loss is temporary and it won’t give you the results you want.

I promise you that the next “miracle in a bottle” touted by a celebrity physician you see on TV is NOT your answer…

And neither is the next miracle diet.

C’mon.  You’re smarter than that, yet, you fall for this crap time and time again only to lose dollars and not “weight”.  You know this stuff doesn’t work and if it really did, the weight loss industry wouldn’t be the multi-million dollar industry it is and everyone would be walking around with their ultimate dream body.

I’m going to help cut through all the bullshit and tell you straight up what you need to do.

Your first mistake is focusing your mind on “weight loss”.

Going forward, I want you to focus on your health.

I know, that’s not quite as sexy as the latest miracle fat burning pill but hang with me.

1.  Do not go on a “diet”. “Diets” are so negative and your subsconcious mind begins to tell you that your are depriving yourself and punishing yourself and you end up “cheating” on your diet. They are also temporary and unsustainable simply because most “diets” have you cutting back on a particular food group that you will end up craving.

Instead, I want you to focus on nutrition.  Eat foods that contribute to your health, not “weight loss”.  Your body needs all essential nutrients to function properly.

When you eliminate foods, you are eliminating essential nutrients which leaves you feeling weak, fatigued, slowing down your metabolism, weakening your immune system and leaving you more susceptible to colds and flu.

When you focus on consuming REAL foods that contribute to your health on a daily basis for the rest of your life, you will find that weight loss is no longer a concern, you’re not starving yourself, and you don’t feel deprived.  You actually feel good, energetic and alert.

2.  Nothing is better for the mind, body, and overall health than exercise. The best way to nourish your body physically and mentally is to hit the iron, aka, lift weights.

There are so many health benefits to lifting weights that are too numerous to mention.Strong is sexy for both men and women and the best way to give your body the shape you want is simply by lifting weights.

You should be hitting the gym consistently at 3-4 times a week and your workouts should not last more than an hour if your are working out efficiently and with intensity. When you exercise in this fashion you are burning calories and revving up your metabolism.

When you eat, you eat to fuel your body and “feed the machine”.  By doing so, you will find that your body doesn’t feel as though it’s been hit by a truck, you feel strong and energetic.  You will also discover that you have better quality of sleep as well.

3.  Take time to relax, unplug, unwind, and quiet the mind.  Chronic stress can lead to health problems, rob you of your energy and lead to weight gain.  I highly recommend you take time every day for yourself to unwind and unplug.

Here are some ways you can de-stress:

Massage
Listen to your favorite music
Sex
Watch a movie
Meditation

Personally, I don’t find TV relaxing and watching the news is far from relaxing as it spews nothing more than negativity and propaganda….but that’s for another story on another day.

And there you have it. As I like to tell people, focus on your health and everything else falls in line.
